The Israeli Quad Team secured its place in the Semi-Finals of the World Championship for Wheelchair Tennis, hosted in Ramat-HaSharon, Israel. The Israeli Team defeated Brazil 2:1 thus scoring their second victory. Japan, ranked 1st in this Championship defeated the USA 3:0. Both Teams now have two victories and tomorrow morning at 10AM, they will face each other for 1st place.
Noam Gershony went to the first game and defeated 6:1 6:0 Fernandez in 39 minutes. Patrick Ben-Uriel went next and was defeated after an hour and 11 minutes 6:3 6:1 by Ymanitu Silva ranked 8th in the world. The Doubles match was played by Gershony & Weinberg vs. Silva & Fernandez and won 6:1 6:0, after 49 minutes, to secure their victory of 2:1.
Among the many spectators where a group of children from the special Wheelchair Tennis Program in Center for Tennis in Acre, Israel. The children met with Noam Gershony, and received inspiration and a number of tips on the field.
Great Britain defeated 2:1 South Africa, and secured her place at the Semi-Finals. Tomorrow the Team rest while South Africa and Canada fight for second place, and their place at the Semi-Finals.
The Israeli Men’s Team was defeated by Holland 3:0 at pool 3. Guy Sasson was defeated in the first Singles game 6:0 6:2 by Ruben Spaargaren. In the second game Adam Bredichevsky was defeated 6:2 6:3 by Maikel Scheffers. In the Doubles match Sasson & Berdichevsky were defeated 6:3 6:2 by Scheffers & Tom Egberink. In the 2nd match Argentina defeated South Africa 2:1. Tomorrow Argentina and Holland will battle for first place, and their position at the Semi-Finals. Israel and South Africa will play at 3PM for third place.
Men: Pool 1 – Japan defeated the USA 3:0. Poland defeated Austria 2:1. Tomorrow Japan will face Austria, and Poland will face the USA as three Teams still has the chance to get to the Semi-Finals, Japan, Austria and Poland.
Pool 2 – France defeated Sri-Lanka. Spain defeated 3:0 Brazil. Both winners now have two victories. Tomorrow France and Spain will face each other in a battle for first place and their position at the Semi-Finals.
Pool 4 – Great Britain defeated 3:0 China. Belgium defeated 2:1 North Korea. Tomorrow Great Britain and Belgium will battle for first place and their position at the Semi-Finals.
Women: Pool 1 – Holland defeated 3:0 Switzerland, and tomorrow will fight the USA for their position at the Semi-Finals.
Pool 2 – Japan defeated 3:0 Brazil, and will face Thailand tomorrow for their place at the Semi-Finals.
Pool 4 – Colombia defeated 2:1 Russia. Tomorrow South Africa and Russia will fight a critical match where everything is still open.
Junior: Pool 1 – Great Britain defeated 2:1 Argentina. Australia defeated 3:0 Colombia. Tomorrow Argentina and Australia, Colombia and Great Britain will fight.
Pool 2 – Brazil defeated 2:1 Holland while the two Semi-Finalists Brazil & Turkey will fight tomorrow for 1st place.
